What it is

Walk through 3D woods after rain, find 120 real mushrooms, and pass the mycologist's inspection. Never eat a mushroom based on what a game says.

Fungaria is a first-person walk through 3D woods after rain: morning light through the trees, low fog, drops falling from leaves, puddles on the trail, and the sound of birds from each forest.

READ THE WOODS

Each mushroom grows with its trees. Look what's nearby: pine, beech, chestnut, oak, birch, or spruce, whether there's moss, a clearing, or fallen wood.

LOOK AT EACH MUSHROOM UP CLOSE

Crouch down and rotate it with your finger. Tilt it to see the gills or pores, look for the ring, and dig around the base in case it hides a volva. Smell it and squeeze it: some mushrooms stain blue or release milk. Then decide: cut it with your knife or leave it.

THE MYCOLOGIST SHOWS NO MERCY

When you return, the mycologist inspects your basket mushroom by mushroom. If you have a single toxic one, the whole basket gets tossed and you learn why.

WHAT IT HAS

  • Pine forest, beech forest, chestnut forest, oak forest, boreal forest, and Appalachian forest, each with its own weather that changes as you walk
  • 120 real species, modeled one by one, with their names from each country and their dangerous look-alikes
  • Real season based on the date and your hemisphere, with events like morel week
  • Field journal with species cards, size records, and rarities
  • Foray of the day: the same woods for everyone, with leaderboards by region
  • Forays of 5 to 8 minutes, no rushing and no ads

The pine and beech forests with 30 species are free. The rest of the forests and species unlock with a one-time purchase.

WARNING

Fungaria is a game. Never eat a mushroom based on what a game, an app, or a photo says. If you pick real mushrooms, always show them to a mycologist or mycological society.

Frequently asked questions

How to play

Left thumb to walk and right to look. At the top you see what tree is nearby, if there's moss or a clearing: each species appears with its trees. When you're near a mushroom, tap "Crouch". Swipe to turn it and tilt it to see the gills or pores; dig if the base is buried. Then cut it or leave it.

The mycologist

On return, the mycologist checks the basket. If you have a single toxic or deadly mushroom, they throw out the whole basket, as a real one would.

Season

Each species appears in its months. The game uses your phone's date and your hemisphere (you can change it in Settings). If a forest is out of season, you can forage in its best month.

Daily foray

Each day there's one foray that's the same for everyone. Your best basket for that day counts toward the leaderboard for your region.

Purchases

Free you have the pine forest and the beech forest with 30 species. The Full Basket (one-time payment) unlocks the 6 forests and 120 species. If you change phones, use "Restore purchases" in the store or in Settings.

Never eat a mushroom based on what a game says

Fungaria does not give advice for eating mushrooms. If in any doubt, ask a mycologist.
